Adult Education Volunteers at Queens Library

The Adult Learner Program is committed to providing adults free programs and services that address the educational needs of the diverse and changing population of Queens.

We offer adult learning resources for students and educators, including the English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)  Referral List; Learn to Read programs and activities for beginning to mid-level adult readers; and Pre-High School Equivalency (HSE) classes for adults who speak English and want to improve their reading and math skills in preparation for HSE classes.

Volunteers work with full-time staff to assist beginner and intermediate level students complete Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes, English Conversation groups, self-guided video groups and , technology-assisted instruction.  Volunteers also assist with computer skills tutoring, office support and citizenship preparation.  Sessions are held at seven Adult Learning Center and several Community Library locations.
