Community Service Partnerships

Queens Library partners with New York City high schools and community based organizations to provide service-oriented projects to young men and women.

These unpaid opportunities seek to help adolescents and young adults ages 14-25 gain valuable career experience in a structured professional setting; while helping to promote community service; and meet the social, cultural, and educational needs of local residents throughout the borough.
All eligible community service partners:

  • Must be a recognized NYC Department of Education high school; 501c3 designated non-profit organization; or NYS accredited college or university

We offer two distinct community service partnerships:

Academic - Local high schools, colleges and universities connect students to activities and projects that satisfy civic engagement requirements, introduce students to the workplace and/or explore careers within the library system such as Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources and Marketing.
Non-academic – Local organizations (Community Based Organizations, Senior Centers, Fraternities/Sororities, etc.) may choose to volunteer in small groups to support current library programs and events.
Volunteers work on existing projects that support program areas such as adult education and career preparation; assist customer groups including Older Adults and New Americans; or strengthen specific local neighborhood branches.
